1. ACCEPTANCE OF TERMS

By using SafeWalks, you confirm that you are at least eighteen (18) years of age, or that you have the consent of a parent or legal guardian, and that you agree to comply with these Terms and our Privacy Policy.

2. DESCRIPTION OF SERVICE

SafeWalks is a personal safety application. The App provides tools intended to help you stay safer while travelling alone, including:

• My Walk: create a solo walk with timer, route tracking, arrival check-in, and optional private share-link monitoring.
• Safe Zone: define places you care about and receive alerts if you leave a zone during an active monitoring period.
• Emergency features: SOS alerts, trusted contacts, medical information storage, and related safety notifications.
• Journey monitoring: optional in-walk safety checks based on progress and, where applicable, travel speed. Monitoring starts only after you press Start Walk.

3. USER ACCOUNTS

You must register with a valid email address. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials and for all activity under your account.

• You must provide accurate and complete registration information.
• You may not share your account with others or create multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions.
• You must notify us promptly of any unauthorised use of your account.

4. USER CONDUCT

You agree not to:

• Submit false, misleading, or deliberately inaccurate safety information.
• Harass, threaten, or intimidate any person through the App or related communications.
• Use the App for purposes unrelated to personal safety, including dating, solicitation, spam, or commercial advertising.
• Impersonate another person or misrepresent your identity or affiliation.
• Attempt to circumvent security features or access another user's account or data.
• Upload or transmit content that is illegal, harmful, defamatory, or that violates the rights of others.

5. SAFETY DISCLAIMER

SafeWalks is a coordination and communication tool. It does not guarantee your safety, the reliability of any route, or the response of any third party. You use the App and participate in all related activities at your own risk.

• Always exercise your own judgment and caution.
• SafeWalks is not a substitute for professional emergency services. In an emergency, contact local authorities (for example, SAPS on 10111 in South Africa) or the nearest appropriate emergency service.
• Features such as SOS, Safe Zone alerts, and journey monitoring depend on device permissions, network connectivity, battery power, and accurate location data, and may not function in all circumstances.

6. CONTENT AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

You retain ownership of content you submit to SafeWalks. By submitting content, you grant SafeWalks a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to use, display, and process that content as needed to operate the App.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse-engineer, or create derivative works from the App or its software without our prior written consent.

7. TERMINATION

We may suspend or terminate your account at any time if you violate these Terms, engage in harmful behaviour, or if we determine that suspension or termination is necessary for safety or legal compliance. You may delete your account at any time through the App.

8. LIMITATION OF LIABILITY

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SafeWalks and its developers, officers, and affiliates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the App, including but not limited to personal injury, property damage, loss of data, or failure of safety features to operate as expected.

9. CHANGES TO THESE TERMS

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the App after updated Terms are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms. We will notify users of material changes through the App where practicable.

10. GOVERNING LAW

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of South Africa. Any dispute arising under these Terms shall be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of South Africa.
